Mumbai-based diamond and jewelry manufacturer, Classic Diamonds reported that its fourth quarter sales fell 4 percent to $29.1 million (INR 1.3 billion). The company said in a note to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) that its net profit was $858,876 (INR 38.3 million) compared to a loss of $578,198.95 (INR 25.8 million) one year ago, while expenses declined 7 percent to $25.5 million (INR 1.1 billion).

Diamond revenues during the quarter increased 6 percent to $23.3 million (INR 1 billion), while the segment’s profits before tax fell 28 percent to $1.7 million (INR 75.4 million). Classic Diamond’s jewelry unit saw its revenues drop 19 percent to $5.8 million (INR 258 million), with a profit of $471,437 (INR 21 million) compared to a loss of $1.2 million (INR 53.1 million) a year earlier.

Gold for August delivery, the most active contract, added 60 cents, or 0.1%, to settle at $1,215 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Prices hit an intraday low of $1,203.80 an ounce, according to FactSet Research.

Gold gained 3% in May, compared to 6% in April. For the week, bullion advanced 3.3%.
